What kind of grades and extracurricular are needed to get into a good D.P.T program?

Be sure to contact the grad schools that interest you to check out the academic and EC requirements. Many of them have requirements for volunteer internships or paid work as a PT aide. You will find these listed as a minimal number of hours required. Many applicants do a variety of volunteer internships (ie. pediatrics, nursing home, acute hospital, sports medicine) to observe the PTs role in these environments and far surpass the minimal number of hours required. I have supervised these interns and written many letters of rec for them. The most successful candidates have excellent grades, GRE scores, and a variety of volunteer internships. Others who are very good but not quite so stellar have to apply a second year while improving their qualifications. You can check in with your advisor at school to determine if you can use your volunteer internship for school credit.
