Physical Therapy Question

This is not a Pre-Med question per say, however I don’t know where else to post it. Do schools that offer a Doctor of Physical Therapy program give preference to students who attend their institutions as undergraduates? I’m mainly wondering about those schools who do not have guaranteed admission programs. Our D is quite interested in PT as a profession. She has chosen several schools to apply to some with DPT programs for graduate school some without. They all have pre-professional advising and we are trying to determine if it matters.

A second question. It seems that nearly all schools that offer a DPT program show a nearly 100% placement rate after graduation and passing the exam. If so does it matter which school one would graduate from? Some are quite highly ranked (USC, Pitt), others rather far down the list and much less well known (Evansville, Findlay, Mount St. Mary’s etc.).

I would have your daughter ask each school. We found that each school seemed to have their own method of determining admission-some gave more preference to their own undergrads, some told us it wasn’t a factor.

Not really sure about the answer to your second question. I would at least make sure to look at each school’s pass rate for the past few years. I would guess that maybe if your daughter wanted to go on to do a residency after PT school that maybe a ranking would matter. Don’t forget too, that some of those farther down the list probably have good local reputations.

On Student Doctor Network there is a DPT forum that may address your concerns. Good luck.

Thank you both for your responses. @Jugulator20 Thank you I found the site and it looks like there will be a fount of information there.
