Hi everyone! I am a senior in high school from Massachusetts and have been accepted to Pitt and Wagner, amongst others that have a PA Program. I understand that Pitt’s Pre-PA Program is a total of 6 years and requires me to declare a major. I have not yet thought about that. Wagner is a total of 5 years and PA is a major.
I value Pitt’s resources of being in a great city, the experience you can get from the UPMC, and their reputation for training PAs. It is my top choice. Wagner is in Staten Island so it does have a proximity to New York City which always has opportunities.
Wagner takes 5 years where 2 years are spent in Pre-PA and 3 years for BS/MS PA.
Pitt takes 4 years for Pre-PA and 2 years for the BS/MS PA.
In regards for cost, Pitt is $44,250 and Wager is $40,528. I submitted my FAFSA today and I hope that having a twin brother who is applying for college at the same time can help us.
I really want to go to Pitt for the higher reputation it has for the program, the atmosphere, and the campus but I am having trouble convincing my dad that it meets Wagner’s program. Additionally, Pitt is ranked higher #56 for PA while Wagner is ranked #106 but I’m not sure how much I should be considering that.
I have still not decided on whether I plan on going to medical school after my 4th year in college but I am positive that I want to be in the healthcare field. Just wanted to add that note.
Can anyone tell me what they feel would be best and why?
I would go to Pitt due to the unbeatable resources and reputation that will benefit the career at large even though a little bit more cost and one more year longer may be a disadvantage in Pitt.
Hi, did you already get your acceptance into the PA program At Wagner? If so when did you have your interview. I am waiting on my acceptance.
It’s so competitive !
Just an update: I got accepted in Wagner’s PA Program and they are giving me $15,000 per year for my 4 years as an undergrad.
UPitt did not give me any scholarship and I am still weighing these schools for their PA Program while considering Pre-Med.
I’ll be hearing back from the rest of my schools by early April.
For this year, Financial Aid Packages have started mailing out to those who have already completed their FAFSA. If you haven’t completed your FAFSA yet and would like to be considered for financial aid, please do so by March 1st in order to maximize your financial aid options.
I have not received my Financial Aid Packages for Pitt nor Wagner yet. I’ll be sure to list the details of those when they arrive. These are the details I have for the annual costs:
I was accepted into Wagner’s 3+2 PA program and the cost of the grad program will be the same as the undergrad but it does NOT include the tri-annual $15,000 from my undergrad. Pitt’s PA Program is a traditional 4+2 program so I’ll be a certified PA in 5 years at Wagner compared to 6 years at Pitt.
Once I get the Financial Aid packages from both colleges, I’ll be sure to give an update.
In the first link it explains that the PA professional program is six consecutive semesters, so two full years at graduate OOS tuition for School of Health and Rehabilitation Science and two summers, year one 15 credits and year two 12 credits, billed at per credit basis (see link two).
So that would be $41,004 x2 plus $25,200 for summer 1 and $20,160 for summer 2 = $127,368
Also for the first four years are you in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences or School of Health and Rehabilitation Science? The OOS tuition for Dietrich is $28,058 and for SHRS $35,662.
That is just tuition. Then you need housing and food, and there are textbooks, lab fees, and lots of other costs associated with the program.
Thank you very much for helping me. I live in MA so it’s definitely not within 25 miles. Does the residency requirement just mean that I have to live on campus for the first 3 years? If so, I was planning on doing that.
