Hey guys, so I wanted to enroll into physics 131 (mathematical methods of physics) but it lists math 33B as a requisite. I will be taking 33B in winter as well and since I got on the waiting list I wanted to know if anyone who's taken 131 can tell me whether you need to know the stuff covered in 33b or whether you can just figure it out as you go along.

Math/Physics double major here… if you have a pretty good background in differential equations, you should be fine for 131, but if not, you honestly should wait until you have 33B under your belt. 131 is really heavy on ODEs and a bit of PDEs, so there’s a good chance you’ll fall behind in the beginning of 131, but you will be able to catch up in the end. But I would say 131 is the easiest upper division physics class.
