Alright, so I'm an incoming engineering student and, as of right now, I have Physics 140 and Math 156 scheduled for this upcoming semester. I've heard from a few people (including my adviser) that these two classes are some of the hardest you can take your first year. Is there any truth to that? I took calc 1 & 2 Junior year in HS, but I haven't taken any other calc since then (but it was my strongest subject in HS and I've been reviewing).

I'm in a learning community, so I'll have a good community to fall back on and a great deal of study group opportunities. I usually have a good work ethic as well. I also plan on utilizing office hours and stuff. I'm just a tad bit worried about getting overwhelmed.

im an incoming physics major. im taken physics 140 and math 216(differential).i am worried just like u. one thing u can do is buy the books and review the subjects.

156 is pretty easy IMO. I took it first semester freshman year, and got an A, mostly because of the huge curve. I went to the math learning center a few times for help on the homework though, since they’re worth 35% of your grade.

I’m not sure about 140 since I tested out. 240 was a lot of work though, but not impossible to get an A if you study a lot and do all of the homework/extra credit.

List your other courses if you want to know if you’ll be overwhelmed…you can’t really tell based off of only 2 classes.

uofm12, from what I’ve heard, 216 probably the easiest math class at u of m so i wouldn’t be too worried.

Physics 140 should not be that difficult if calculus was your strongest subject in high school. If you had any physics in high school and did well in it the class should be easy.

you’ll be fine – that’s really only 3 classes because of UC 107.

If you’re decent at math, PHYSICS 140 will be easy.

Similarly, ENGR 101 is a joke if you are decent at math or have any programming experience at all.

I don’t personally know anybody that took math 156, so I can’t comment on that course specifically; however, other than 286/295/296, the 100/200 level math classes at umich are easy
