Physics 1401 at Columbia?

Is physics 1401 at Columbia University the same as physics C in high school or would it be more similar to physics B? I see in the coursework that calculus is required in the class so I was guessing it would be more like physics C but then I'm curious as to why an introductory physics class would be at such a high level.

Does anyone know exactly how hard the physics 1401-1402-1403 sequence is?

i’m not sure what you mean by physics b or c, but physics 1401 is basically the easiest level introductory physics course offered at columbia. what are you planning to take physics for? because i would say that if physics is in any way important to your planned major it would probably be best to take at least one level up.

I need to take physics for pre-med and also, for biomedical engineering, physics 1401 is the lowest level physics you can take. 1401 is the lowest level the SEAS kids can take but the college kids can get away with 1201.

By physics B I meant the Advanced Placement High School course which covers general physics. Physics C is the Advanced Placement High School course which covers a lot more (mechanics, electricity, magnetism) and applies some calculus.

Go to the helpful threads post. There have been many long discussions about the physics and chem tracks.
