Hello, CC! I am studying my ass off to be a competent transfer applicant, and to get to the Caltech level I am solving problems from http://www.its.caltech.edu/~tmu/ph1a/problems.htm. Some questions were do-able, but I couldn't solve problems such as QP3 and QP4. At Caltech are you expected to solve these kind of problems by yourself during quizes and such? Thank you in advance!

During quizzes, you will be expected to solve questions of that caliber on your own. On sets however, you have the option of working with classmates on the sets. You have to understand the underlying concepts and be able to write out the answer on your own by the end of collaboration though, or else you’ll at best struggle on the quizzes/final or at worst get to spend a wonderful time with the academic review committee (BoC).

In regards to QP3 and QP4, consider drawing force diagrams. They’re very helpful. If you’re struggling still, I’d be happy to offer you advice in regards to these problems since I took the course. Just PM me, and I’ll do my best to respond. It’s finals week, so afterwards, I’ll be readily available.

@chewydog: I will, thank you!!
