I signed up for physics 1b and 4AL for summer session C and when I signed up it was taught by Staff but now they revealed the Staff to be none other than.... Corbin.... what should I do? is he that hard as many people says? im only taking one class this summer maybe i can pull it off???

if you're going to be a freshman next year, can you take summer classes?

im pretty sure you can, try to sign up through ursa? but the hard part is most freshmen don't really know what to sign up for during summer what classes are you considering taking and which session? make sure it doesn't coincide with orientation I guess...

Yes, he is that hard.

yes as in I can pull it off or Yes as in drop it now...?

You can pull it off - as in, pass - but it depends on how much time you're willing to devote to his class.

The homeworks are long and difficult - 15 problems each set, for 10 sets, and a third of them are from the challenge problems; the rest, almost all from the latter half of the group (usually #50-60 on). The tests are difficult (~20% average) and the final is even worse.

The good thing about the whole ordeal is that he's very accessible, but that's not really important if you don't care too much for the subject.

oh wow... Corbin's 1b over summer? Take it, take it, take it!!! Especially if you're a physics or EE major. I had him last quarter and so far he's the best professor I've had here.. very enthusiastic and really keen on making everyone suffer. I believe he has a generous curve, though he'd probably never admit it. Don't expect to skate through it though, so maybe not too good of an idea over the summer.
With reasonable time spent on the class, a B should not be hard.

The latter 1/3 of Corbin's homework problems tend to be insane... graduate-level stuff... If you can do them yourself you should seriously consider majoring in Electrical Engineering if you aren't doing so already.

Corbin builds character. I liked the guy (did the review workshops with him), and I think that a tough professor that cares is +EV for you in the long run, and especially during summer when you can devote your time to the class.

I took corbin last quarter.
awesome.
I have solutions if you need 'em.
I also have past exams that I took last quarter too.
oh man first exam average was 12/90 i believe?

Oh yeah,
Didnt corbin say.
winter 2008 1b class got the best grades from all the 1b classes he teached?

wow thats crazy but he sounds like a great teacher if he is insanely hard yet these many people recommend him... im a civil eng major and im pretty sure civil eng deal with a decent amount of physics... but im gonna need all the help I can get... wink charlesjeon wink...

yea... like someone else above said, the good thing about Corbin is that he's not just hard, he also cares about his students and befriends them to an extent. He boasts that his 1B students end up having a much easier time in their upper division and usually set the curves for those classes. And yes, he was impressed by his winter 08 class because they brought up the median from ~20% in the first midterm to over 50% in the final.
So far EE1 has been a breeze for me because Corbin already covered everything so well when he did electrostatics!

electrifice really?
I have to take EE1 next fall.
phew.
corbin actually helped then.haha

I agree with electrifice in that you should take the class. He was a very good professor, and the curve was VERY generous... last quarter I got 45/90 on first midterm, 66/90 on 2nd, final - not sure, which makes it seem like I bombed the class, but i got an A. LOL! Though I think people in my class just weren't too bright or something ><, since those scores were in the top 10-15% lol...
Also... towards the second half of the quarter I only did like the first half of the hw problems (first 7-10 problems) and I still got > 13/15 on all my homeworks. He only grades 2 problems, each worth 5 pts, and then u get 1pt for attempting up to 5 other problems. So... I would often do 7 problems, get the 2 graded right, and then do 5 others... 15/15 :D.

And... hey electrifice, I'm in ure EE1 class haha ;]. I actually think Ozcan is amazing as well. He explained the math so well, though I already knew a lot of it. It's just that he did a better job than my 32a / 32b professors in my opinion... I know we already knew most of the stuff covered already, but that's cause it IS 1b material. We should be going into more unkmown stuff soon ;]. I think EE1 will get harder, but I really think Ozcan is amazing at explaining things because he really understands the concepts well.
