Physics 7a alternative for EECS Telebears

Next semester, I was supposed to take math 1b and physics 7a. Since cs61b was already very full I phased 1ed it and I had the choice of also signing up for physics or math. Since Math 1b was a prerequisite to Physics 7a (that could be taken concurrently) and also less major specific and thus it seemed like more people would take it, I decided to also phase 1 math 1b.

This turned out to be a huge mistake as physics 7a filled up way faster than math 1b. In addition, they didn't have any form of wait list in place and the class filled up. I was happy when they announced that additional seats would open up for it in between my phase 1 and phase 2 but before I could even do my phase 2 tomorrow (Tuesday), those extra seats already filled.

I need help deciding what to do and would appreciate help from someone who has already taken some sophomore level eecs courses to give me some advice. Assuming I don't somehow get into 7a tomorrow II figure I have a few options. The first is to forgo a technical class in place of physics and take another gen ed this semester (r&c and ac) but this seems like worst idea because I wont really be solving the problem, just pushing it back a semester and running into worse problems. Another option I could think of is to take physics 7b instead. This is were some prior experience would really come in handy. Is it reliant on knowledge from 7a or a math higher than 1b? Am I even allowed to take it (prereq wise)? Lastly, I was thinking about taking ee20n. The site for it made it seem like there werent any prerequisites but then it later said that people with math 54 experience did significantly better and i am way far behind in that regard.

Does anyone know the 7a physics instructor? Is the no waitlist thing just a formality and if I talked to him and it was a requirement for my major would he let me in? Thanks for any help or advice.

Don’t worry about it. Tons of students drop 7A throughout the first 2 weeks of school. Just check telebears frequently and you should have no problem getting in to the class. You might want to talk to a counselor about your problem as well

7A has an early drop deadline though, so really be on the ball.
