Physics 8.02 Advanced Standing Exam

How hard is this exam if you read up on the relevant topics? (e.g in Serway). Do the questions require as much thinking as psets? Also, is it as difficult or easier than the 8.02 final exam?

Thanks!=)

im pretty sure it would be as hard as the 8.02 final, see no reason why it wouldnt given they arent as supportive about advanced standing as other colleges are.

Well, how hard is it to get at least a C? How many marks is that upon 100?

high 70's is average, I think,not completely sure

Hrm thanks - is there a lot of 18.02 material needed to pass 8.02?

Are the advanced standing exams multiple-choice?

I don't think any exams are multi choice.

I didn't think any ASE exams were multiple-choice, either, at first, seeing that the in-course exams of each subject required free response. But, if you've looked at the schedule, you'll find that ASE exams are unlikely to be multiple-choice. The exams will be held in the first few days of Orientation. Then a week later, on Registration Day, the exams will have been scored so that we can decide what courses to take for the first semester. I guess that if the exams weren't multiple-choice, the scoring wouldn't be finished so quickly. :)

Can someone confirm this?

I'm pretty sure there're no multiple choice questions. An MIT freshman told me that if I remember correctly. So does anyone know if 18.02 is needed to pass 8.02?

mit_hopefulgirl, you can check if 18.02 is needed to pass 8.02 by comparing the final exam of 8.02 to the syllabus of 18.02. I haven't looked at them carefully so I can't tell you the answer outright. See for yourself:

Heh thanks geniezclone!

i've had classes where exams are taken one afternoon and handed back the next morning in recitation. it's eminently possible to have a non-multiple-choice exam graded within a week, provided you have enough people; in fact, i recall being asked to grade physics advanced standing exams during rush, and the same pool generally does both the 8.01 and 8.02 exams, on consecutive days.

then again, i never took any advanced standing exams, having better things to do. so i don't actually know.
