how well do we need to do on the test to get the credit? are the problems harder or easier than the problem sets on the ocw (for 8.02)? is the level similar to the ap exam?

I would assume that the passing score on the test would be somewhere around 60%, although that's just an educated guess.

According to what I saw on the ocw website, the final exam doesn''t require any calculus. Formulas are also given. Does this mean the ase exam will be the same. Also, do we need to know how to get certain values, such as values for inertia of different objects or will they be given in the question?

If we take the exam and pass out of 8.01 and then go on to take 8.012, will the credit we are given for 8.01&8.012 be the same as if we had made a 5 in both AP Physics C's and then taken 8.012?

I just checked out the 8.02 exams (so far I had been looking at the problem sets) and it seemed to me that the exams were far easier than the homework problems. Is this true or am I underestimating the difficulty of the tests? Would it better to look at tests or problem sets to be best prepared for the ase exam?

Well, I think homework problems are usually harder than test problems in general -- for homework problems, you have unlimited access to books, formulas, other people, the internet... test problems are usually easier to compensate for the fact that you have to use your head alone, and only for a short time at that.

veritas88, I can't find anything in the offical info that says whether or not passing the 8.01 ASE/taking 8.012 is treated the same way as getting a 5 in AP/taking 8.012. Is it really worth it, for six units of credit?

what kind of calculuator can you bring for the math diagnostic exam?

none. it's prohibited

maybe the 8.02 exam will be as easy as the math diagnostic
maybe

Haha I wish...

So, if AP credit is received, then you can just skip the class w/o having to take the ASE, right? Like AP PhysC and AP CalcBC for 8.01 and 18.01 respectively?

If you have a 5 on both parts of the physics AP, then you automatically get credit for 8.01, no ASE needed. Just make sure your advising folder correctly notes your scores/credit awarded.

Wow. That was easier than the diagnostic. (kidding) :'-(

P! (10 chars)

P as well...congrats to us both
