Aight, so here's the deal:

I want to take Physics 8A to get it out of the way as a pre-med incoming freshman. Is it Calculus-based (like if I just took Calc AB test and got a 5) will I be prepared enough? Also, would you recommend taking it at this time along with Chem 1A, Math 1A, and some breadth requirement class (16 units altogether)? Thanks in advance.

Physics 8A has just basic calculus in it, you can even get by without it. You can take any classes you like, I just have a question. What is the rush?, you have 2 years to finish pre-reqs.

The rush is basically that I don't want to have to take a year off after 4 years of undergrad, so I just want to make sure that I finish everything on time, so I can start med school directly after undergrad (I've heard horror stories of having to take a year off after u-grad)

Why do you have to take a year off? You get out of berkeley in the spring and start med school the next fall.

Not advisable to take physics as freshman. If you finish physics as a freshman, you will most likely forget everything you learned when you start preparing for MCAT couple years down the road. People ususally start with chemistry because they reuse concepts in chemistry over and over again. But after one year of physics, as a pre-med, you likely won't take any more physics classes, unless you are physics or engineering major(but then of course, these guys take the 7 series).
