Hey everyone,

I am signed up for physics 8a this summer, but I can't decide if I should really go with it...
I have never taken physics before... the Prof teaching it is Golightly. Any input on the prof or recommendations about taking it in the fall instead with Bordel or Liphardt would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I got raped by it and I had a year of physics in high school (non AP)…The first midterm was fine since that was all review (force, mass, acceleration, velocity). The second midterm was ridiculous for me (although I made tons of mistakes, not that the test was THAT hard).

All in all, it was a tough class and I would not recommend taking it in the summer if you are a person who eases into your classes. Golightly is an entertaining professor (there were some really cool demos) and I wouldn’t say his style is that hard to keep up with, but I feel like he doesn’t do examples that you see on the test or even Mastering Physics (the homework).

By the way, Mastering Physics is a b*tch…luckily Golightly gave us unlimited guesses on everything except the multiple choice.

Golightly vs Liphardt

hahaha I didn’t have any of those professors, but que bizarre. All those professors will probably be better than Fajans.

^ interesting lol

Just take the class. Physics is difficult no matter what and you’re going to have to put your own time and effort learning the material. I had a pretty bad professor for 8A (Heinemann?) and stopped going to lecture within the first couple weeks, but got an A in the class anyway. Class is curved a lot, probably because there’s no actual physics/engineering majors in there.
