What is the workload of Physics 8A compared to other classes such as Chem 1A? Bio 1A/1B? Is it really time consuming to understand? Is there a mastering physics every week and about how long does each take?

The workload is pretty small. Outside of exams, it’s just HW + some labs. You don’t even have to go to section if there is no lab. It’s definitely one of the more chill science classes. Some people will just get the stuff really fast, and others find it really difficult and frustrating.

How long does each msatering physics usually take?

Did you take AP Physics C Mechanics in high school? If so, most of it will be pretty easy. You can finish MP really fast each week especially if you look up some of the answers online (btw, ALL of the MP answers are online, google is your friend).

there’s no learning if you look up–
nah just do it.

They can take anywhere from 1 to 5+ hours, depending on how good you are with the topics.

oh gg who’s teaching 8A this semester?

you’ve gotta be pretty bad at physics (and google search) if you’re spending 1-5 hours on mastering physics. The longest it took me was 30 minutes, usually 15-20…and I got an A.

damn u must be a genius or something yo

it’s nothing like that.

Let’s just say that most of the problems on mastering physics are generic and can be found extremely easily. They don’t even help in understanding any of the physics concepts, book problems help a lot more.

oh i see ok

lol so i took the opposite approach and never went to 8A lectures or looked at the book. Did spend 2-4 hours on mastering physics each week without ever really looking up answers. Also got an A.

have you guys had physics before?

I did in high school.

Who’d you guys have? fajans?

yeah. dunno about anyone else, but he was a horrible physics teacher. never took physics in hs so it was harder for me. though you are a champ for finishing mp in 15 minutes.

Lol props to you, 123456789bc. I generally suck at math/physical science and it takes me a long time for concepts to sink in so maybe MP takes less than a few hours for others, but <30 minutes is boss.

is it true that none of the discussions are required and that you are only required to go to half the labs on certain days? how would this affect your ability to understand the material (say if your prof also isn’t great)

and is it true that these discussions/labs can be skipped every semester? and do people feel thta going to discussion/labs may help in understanding the material?

yes it’s true. but it’s pretty helpful to go and get individualized help from your GSI, because almost no one shows up to them after a couple of weeks.
