Hey everyone !

So, I'm a rising Junior and I am going to take Algebra II. My school has the six period scheduling, so I had to take my six classes for the whole year. =\ That means that I cannot take Pre-cal this school year.

My plan is to take Physics AND Pre-Cal next summer (which will be Summer 2013) at a community college. I'm going to take pre-cal during the summer to be able to take AP Calculus my Senior year. My question is, do I need to know calculus before taking Physics ? I can't take Physics my Senior year coz my school does not offer a Physics class (I know, unbelievable, right ? !). I have been wondering about this for a long time. Please HELP !

In my school, the only pre-req for a regular Physics course is a Geometry course, for an AP Physics B course, Algebra II, and for AP Physics C, AP Calculus. Obviously, your school might be formatted differently, but I don’t think you need to know Calculus to take a regular Physics course.

If you’re taking the Physics class at a college, then yes, you do need calculus. High school calculus through Physics B do not require calculus because it’s algebra- based. Most college physics courses are calc-based and you use both differentiation and integration to derive formulas. For instance, work is equal to the integral of force times change in time if force varies over the time interval. Unless you’re taking some sort of remedial or easy physics class at the college, you need calculus.

Okay. I guess I’ll have to formulate new plans. =\ My situation sucks.

Thank you for reading and replying ! =)
