I haven’t taken either of these, but I could take pre-calc next semester (just wasn’t planning on it). I could try to take physics online, not sure how well that would work on top of my rigorous schedule this year. I’m worried that Georgia Tech won’t accept me because I never took these. I’m looking to major in biology and then go onto medical school.
I took pre-calc in high school and the course really isn’t that difficult. You mentioned how you have a rigorous schedule already so pre-cal won’t be the biggest worry, you should be fine. As for Physics I never took the class personally but my friends who did take the class (even those who weren’t the best in math/science) all said it was an easy class as long as you paid attention and did your work. AP Physics on the other hand I heard was very difficult but if you plan on taking regular/Honors physics you should be fine.
I would take precalc at least.
My S18 is taking both this semester and calculus next semester.
Here’s what Georgia Tech is looking for in terms of high school coursework: http://admission.gatech.edu/freshman/academic-preparation
I would think you should be taking at least pre-calc by senior year if you plan to apply to a tech college…unless there are some extenuating circumstances?? But even still, I would think to be a competitive candidate, you should at least be that far along in math.
I took Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry (all honors) and AP statistics. Not many people at my school take the Pre Calc / AP calc pathway because the ones who took an HS math class in 8th grade did the same pathway as I did (if that makes sense) but I could try to dual enroll Pre Calc next semester if necessary.
Are you a senior? You should have done pre-calc by the end of your senior year in older to go to a tech school.
@ConcernedRabbit I didn’t know that though, Mu school doesn’t have counselors so unfortunately no one would’ve told me. But I’ll take it next semester. I did take all the required math classes and AP statistics.
