Okay, so I got carried away with the symbols, but I just wanted to know if anyone else was struggling in this class? I AM! How do you think Yale would feel if I dropped the AP class and switched to honors? I'm emailing my admissions officer right now, but I'm afraid of the response.... :(

I'm taking AP Physics and doing fine! It seems a lot easier than AP Bio (at least for me).

I can sympathize with you Chidimma. It is a tough course (especially since I have a little old egyptian man who doesn't like to explain things). He's the nicest man on earth, but not the best teacher.

But his grading is awesome. If we get a 60% on the midterm, we get an A. :) I hope that's a good thing

chidimma: have you been accepted to Yale yet?

AP Physics is a hard course. Even though I'm a math geek, I'm not doing so well (in the mid 80s). Oh well, my teacher has a awsome curve, 85=100!!!

Off topic but I HATE AP US HISTORY!!!!!!! and I STRONGLY DISLIKE AP English Lit.

chidimma, our teacher is this guy who seriously spends half his time on mars. we spent three days talking about the rubiks cube and how it has 4.5 quintillion possible moves. that's why i switched out. don't worry about it. it's not as if you're dropping a class completely, you're just switching out.

yeah, that's how I see it. and yes, bjrwrh , I was already accepted. AP Physics is death in disguise, even with the huge curves...... I'm glad to know that I am not alone in my loathing for this class...

QUOTE:
"dropped the AP class and switched to honors"

I thought that to take AP Physics you had to take Physics Hon. first, or at least that is how my school does it.
I am a junior in Physics Hon. and I'm going to take AP Physics C. Is C more math than the B course? I think that more math would make it easier but I heard that it is harder, which is more difficult?

i'm taking AP Physics C right now and it is harder than B in the sense that you learn everything much more in depth and with calculus involved. BUT, C covers less topics than B and everything is pretty much a review from B so in reality, it's not so bad. over here, we don't have any physics honors, it's just ap physics b and then ap physics c.

chidimma, i don't think Yale would care if you dropped the class and switched to honors.

I love my Physics C class. Our teacher doesn't curve except for finals and stuff, but she is really an amazing teacher. She gets into the class, explains things very well, has hundreds of fun toys that she uses in demonstrations, and we do so many fun things with her. At the end of the year last year in Honors Physics we went to King's Island for our final. The final itself took about three hours doing measurements and calculations about certain roller coasters and rides, but the rest of the day we got to do whatever we wanted. This year, she is going to let my AP class go with the honors classes, but we don't have to do any work, just the honors students do. :)

The Rubik's cube has 43 quintillion, not 4.5

"And with 43 quintillion possibilities, no challenge is ever the same"

At my school, you can only get credit for one subject= one physics. We have the option of Physics B AP or Physics Honors. I chose AP. I've decided to switch to the honors class. My guidance counselor called my admissions officer (I also emailed him last night), and he said I'd just have to write Yale a paragraph to explain the change. Sounds good to me. Thanks guys!

-Chidimma

AP Physics isn't that bad really, except that I have my final tomorrow and have a ton of material to cover in the next few hours...ugh. Since all of you are AP physics students, are any of you interested in an engineering major at Yale? Do you know the caliber of their engineering program (i'd imagine that it's top-notch, but I don't know.) Also, do you know Yale's policy on AP credit acceptance?

lol, thanks for the correction angrydude. you can tell how much attention I paid to my teacher.

Interested in engineering? %$^&**##@ NO! okay, got carried away with the symbols, but no thank you.

I don't think Yale gives credit for AP classes. someone correct me if I'm wrong.

lol chidimma :P

chitownstud, i'm actually applied for engineering but right now, i'm leaning more towards economics, but who knows.

oh yes, no offense to the engineering peeps! :)

yeah, yale doesn't give credit for AP classes, but you can use them to place into higher level classes. quite handy if you want to major in something science related that has fifty billion prerequisites.

I plan to major in physics, but AP Physics isn't offered at my school. I only took IB Physics SL last year. Do you think I'll be starting off with a significant disadvantage?

my school doesnt have honors physics or ap physics B. only AP Physics C. It's a decent class... but a lot of work.
