These many, many, many people are very, very, very dumb. Never did we have the impression that very many classes would be available at CMU. The funny thing is that I read something about a CMU grad who had been given some nice award and he talked about how great it was to be able to take classes at Pitt.

I agree with MDMom - we knew it was available but only with restrictions as noted above.

If you really want the program at CMU, you need to enroll there, I guess is the answer.

Eh, I’d just like to take two or three (by the time my degree program’s said and done).

I’ve decided to double major in Computer Science and Philosophy. Given that the Philosophy major only requires 24 credits in-major, I’ll be able to graduate in 3 years no problem (keeping in mind that I’m transferring in a lot of courses).

Once I see my advisor I need to ask him/her if I need to take W (Writing) courses for both majors. W courses aren’t offered very often for Comp Sci majors, so that could be a bit tricky.

Hi AmericanDiogenes,

It’s great that you’ve found so much information on your own! For more information about cross registration, this would be a good place to look. [Cross-Registration - Office of the University Registrar at the University of Pittsburgh](http://www.registrar.pitt.edu/cross_registration.html). For more specific questions about feasibility, you may want to call the office directly, (412) 624-7649.

Regarding the Physics and Astronomy office, I’m not sure who you’ve contacted, but like someone else said, it is summer hours here at Pitt. This .pdf may be useful in your research http://phyast.pitt.edu/sites/default/files/Undergraduate_Program_08-09-25-1.pdf. the website you mentioned is right, the program here is very aggressive. they recommend a high math background in calculus, multivariable calculus, differential equations, linear algebra…etc. before enrolling.

From an interview with the department advisor last year, he mentioned that 2/3 of students go on to graduate school. to enter into research, he also recommended talking to professors, networking, and getting fieldwork experience.

Good luck, and Hail to Pitt!

Thank you for the very thorough response. Do Summer hours run until the beginning of the Fall semester?

Yes, once classes begin on Monday, August 29th you will have much more access to the department.
