After talking to an advisor, I am considering physics instead of engineering now. Has anyone heard anything about the physics program at Texas A&M? I'm really working towards going to grad school so would the undergrad education here be good? I know they have a great engineering school.

Yes. Texas A&M at College Station is one of Texas’s three Tier 1 schools. My school, UH, is working on achieving Tier 1 status. -_-

I’m looking more specifically at physics. I’ve been trying to dig up info about TAMU Physics over the internet, but I’m not finding much conversation about it. I know they are a great school overall.

I guarantee you’ll get a good physics education there. I’m a physics junior, by the way. However, if you can, try to get into UT-Austin or Rice. Rice is the “Harvard of the South.”

I’m already graduated and committed to going to TAMU. Was accepted to UT and did not apply to Rice. As long as the physics education is decent then I’m fine with it because I will be planning on grad school in the future, hopefully to a more prestigious school.

I don’t have any first hand information on TAMU, but it looks like they have a decent sized undergrad physics program. According to college navigator A&M graduated 27 BS physics students in 2008-9 (the most recent statistics) and 16 PhDs. The physics faculty numbers over 70 and it looks like they have a wide range of research going on (looked it up on grad school shopper) so you should have a good opportunity to build an appropriate resume for grad school.

I’m an Aggie Engineering major class of 2013, so I just got done taking physics 1 and 2 at A&M, which is what you will be taking. I can tell you right now, Phys 218 and Phys 208 are SUPER HARD (especially 208; that course practically had everyone crying for their mothers). A&M makes that second course in Physics so much harder than in really needs to be, but you will learn a lot. My best advice I can offer you is to pick up a season pass at A+ Tutoring, which makes things so much easier and got me an A in both courses. Trust me, you will thank me if you do. Any questions, just ask. I can tell you all the best professors and everything. Gig’em!

Reveille, is this what you are talking about?

so you take this tutoring during the same time that you are taking the Physics class at Texas A&M?
