Can anyone tell me what the Physics department is like at UCSD? Im looking for a school with a strong physics department and, since I live right next to UCSD, I thought Id start here ;)

I've heard a physics professor say that our program is as good as Berkeley's, but I don't know if that's true, and even if it is, I don't know if that's good.

The upper division physics classes I took were my hardest classes.

well there aren't undergraduate rankings but UCSD is pretty high up there in the graduate rankings. 17th place I believe?

(Interesting to see Santa Barbara way up there! Nice change of pace from the usual Cal/LA>SD>SB form)

I think one of the main benefits of the physics department here is that it's pretty small, so it's very easy to get to know your fellow classmates/professors. There's also a summer physics REU here, so they care about undergrads getting research experience, which is a plus. I have only taken lower-division physics classes and they were all pretty good, and the professors always seem willing to help students out. I am taking three upper-division physics classes for Fall quarter and Slorg's comment scares me :/
