Physics C worth taking?

hey guys,

we don't have a physics c class at my school, but someone who self-studied it last year loaned me a study book. is it worth the work to self-study c and get more credit than just sticking with b? i will likely be majoring in physics...

thanks!

I don't personally think that it's worth it for me.

You're call though.

Go for C if you think you can do B..You will be receiving 2 seperate scores.
I did that last year and got better than I expected. (4 Mech,5 Elect)
A 5 and a 4 is better than only one 5(that is the B exam)

Ya, but you have to prep more.

Sure, but isn't that what the colleges want you to do?

How much calculus is required in the C exams? Derivatives, integrals, etc...?

Well I don't think just because you know Calculus that you automatically know Physics C.

Derivatives, integrals, solids of revolutions, plane geometry, a lot with different momentums caused by weight distribution. It has calculus, but it is a lot of theory and a lot of knowledge. I agree, you can not just know Calc and Physics B, and do good on C.

Lol, I never said that all you need is calc. or did I imply that? Anyway, thanks guys.

It seems VERY implied, to me at least (even though you didn't say it). Don't plan on taking Physics C unless you plan on learning and expanding on new concepts.

Is Physics B like the basic AP Physics course? Like can you do good on that if you take regular Physics? Thanks

No you can't...unless you prep MUCHO

AP Physics C is one of the most challenging and interesting class ever.

is it the general trend to get a 5 Mech and 1 E&M? cuz i'm headed in that direction!!

Personally, I felt the difficulty of AP Physics C is exaggerated. But then, I've been more a physics person than anything else.

Is it worth it? Definitely. It's an amazing class; makes your head do gymnastics. I'm taking AP Bio now (took AP Phys last year), and I basically spend class solving physics problems anyway. Really makes you think, that class.

Work hard, don't be discouraged, you'll get 5s on both parts.

And Gkilla2005...nah. I found E&M harder, but the curve for that thing is nuts, making the test pretty easy still. Have faith; you'll do fine.

What kind if a curve are we talking about on the E&M exam?

if it's 40% and you get a 5 then i can manage!

Not too far of Gkilla. I think it's around 48 out of a possible 90. Just more than 50%.

My teacher tells us "the AP test is meant for the hick kids from the south".

^lol^ wow!

is Physics C meant for people who are going to do premed in college?

Also, do I have to take Honors Physics before AP Physics B and AP Physics B before Physics C? .
