Hi, I am looking for a good complementary double major for an Econ B.A. I’m really interested in both physics and computer science, maybe a little more towards physics, mainly because of the theories and mind-blowing things you learn about. So, should I do a double major on physics & econ, or CS & econ? I realize that job prospect wise - CS would be a better choice. But getting a physics degree can also enhance my problem solving skills, maybe even a little more than a CS degree would. I plan to do research for economics as a career.
Having a physics background is an excellent way to learn how to build models of physical (and economic) systems. However, the bottom line is that you should choose something that is interesting to you and if physics fits the bill (it did for me), then go for it.
You probably want to include substantial advanced math and statistics (e.g. real analysis, linear algebra, calculus-based probability theory), since PhD programs in economics expect a strong math and statistics background.
