Physics @ Harvard?

Hello everyone. I want to become a physicist (I'm interested in applied physics) and was wondering if it's a good idea to study physics in Harvard? A lot of people say that Harvard is a bad choice and I should check schools like MIT, Stanford or Princeton. Please, prove me wrong. Harvard is my dream.

haha. i applied engineering at harvard. once i get my decision, on the 15th of dec, i will be letting you know if its a good idea for you to apply. i think harvard is a good place to study physics only if you like the interdiscplinary and not a focused concentration. mit is a science-oriented school, so even humanities classes will be somewhat correlated to science. therefore, i’m thinking harvard’s science programs are more geared toward society and humanities, etc.

Harvard does have at least a few of the best theoretical physicists in the world…have you heard of Lisa Randall? I’m a humanities major, so I don’t know if we’re the best place to study physics. I am quite sure, however, that we are at the very least a very good place to study physics.

Harvard is tied for number 1

^ Yea i know, but I don’t know if reliable undergrad rankings in physics exist. And anyways, it must show some correlation, rite?

well rose-hulman is best undergrad engineering school for 13 years in a row, but their stats are so insanely low, and they have a 60% acceptance rate…

My daughter is a junior concentrating in physics at Harvard and loves it. If you need reassurance about going there for your undergrad, look at the CVs of the physics profs at all of the top schools that you are considering. Not only will many have gotten their PhDs at Harvard, there will be many others that did their undergrad degrees there. It truly is one of the very best places to study physics.
