Physics Honors Through FLVS

Has anyone taken this course through FLVS? If so, what was your experience like?

1) How many hours of homework a week?

2) Is it a joke or can you actually learn from it?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

If it’s a non-AP FLVS course, it’s a joke.

^Depends on the class. I’ve learned a lot in Latin. But then again, I just love languages.

OP: You can select a different pace for your own schedule, which determines how many hours a week you need to put into it.

apatheticlove, what courses have you taken?

^ Spanish 1 & 2, Econ, US History.

I’ve done Geometry and World History for a friend, and I’ve helped another do Chem.

Can a out-of-state student use FLVS? How much would we have to pay?

^ Yes, you can do so through the FLVS Global school. Regular and honors courses are $375 per semester and AP courses are $400 per semester.

Ouch, you guys have to pay? :O

I don’t, I live in Florida. I go for free :)

The out of state kids have to pay, though.

Lol, I live in FL too, that’s why it surprised me.
That sucks for OOS kids, I doubt I’d do it then.

^ I’d never do it if I had to pay. You don’t actually learn anywhere near as much as a real class (At least I didn’t and no one I know did). It would be essentially buying credits.

^Yeah lol. The only class I’ve learned in is Latin, but it’s a language & I’m into those anyway. I’m glad we get it for free though, cos I need online PE to graduate on time. XD

^ Are you one of the kids taking HOPE online? I’ve heard horror stories about the irrelevent BS FLVS makes you do for that course.

^
How difficult was Spanish 2 through FLVS?

^^No, I’m not doing HOPE, just Personal Fitness. I’m taking the other half credit second semester of my AP Gov period since I already took Microecon. But PF is still awful, I had to write a paper about whether gender or age affects a person’s choice of exercise more the first week in the class. How does that help me? -.-

The answer to that question is “No”. Difficulty wise, it’s a complete joke. You can resubmit nearly all assignments until you get 100%. If you get a 100% on everything else, you only need around a 75% average on tests to get an A.

Besides, intelligent use of translators and verb conjugators decreases the level of difficulty even further.

There are a few bad things about this course. It is much more culture oriented than a real class would be, which basically just means you have some assignments that have nothing to do with actually learning the language. Also, you have to have an “oral” before each test (LOL) where the teacher asks you 3 easy questions over the phone. The problem is that you generally can’t do more than 1 module a day because of this (there are 10 modules total in the 2 semester course) which limits the speed at which you can go through the course.

It was the dumbest thing ever! I learned a lot when i took algebra 2 honors online. Alos, did you take ap macro or micro or just honors econ?

^ Just honors econ. I had a 4 day weekend and nothing to do so I decided to knock out an easy class.

From what I’ve heard, macro is fine online, but micro could be better.

^Woah, a semester class in 4 days!

^ I did a semester of US History in 2 days. That’s how you gotta do these courses :)
