Physics/Math at Midd

Hi all,

I am a high school senior passionate about physics, astronomy, and math. I’m interested in Middlebury, and was wondering how strong Midd’s physics and math departments are…

How are the professors? Are there opportunities for student research and does the college fund these? How is grad school/job placement for Midd physics/math majors? How do Midd’s physics/math programs compare to other LACs such as Williams, Vassar, Carleton, Hamilton, and Bowdoin? Overall, do the science programs at Midd rival those at any other top LACs?

Thanks for your input!

I was wondering the same, as I am advanced in mathematics and taking multivariable calc my senior year, I know Williams has a great program, was also wondering about Middlebury so could we have some replies please? Maybe nobody is replying because the quality of the department isn’t great…

Might be a pretty limited audience on CC, why don’t you email the department heads to see what opportunities Midd has to offer beyond the course offerings that are listed in the catalog? they could give you a good idea of research offerings etc. etc.

Well, here’s what I know. Middlebury has what are widely considered the best science facilities of all the top LACs. I also know they have an annual math competition with Williams. I know a number of Middlebury’s physics professors have been involved with (wrote and published) major research articles that were in the news over the last year or two. That’s about the extent of my knowledge
