Physics or Chem Lab courses - summer 2014

Hello
I am looking for suggestions for residential summer 2014 programs in the United States that offer a rigorous Physics laboratory course or a Chemistry laboratory course for a motivated junior interested in studying electrical engineering in college.

As background, the student is an American living in Europe, and until this year, attended an American school taking a mixture of both AP and IB courses. He is a strong student and has taken 9th grade Honors Biology (with lab), 10th grade Honors Chemistry (with lab). At his current school in Europe he is taking the most rigorous college prep Chemistry and Physics courses offered (and will continue these next year), but his school doesn’t offer a lab component for Physics and he can’t take the Chemistry lab course because of scheduling issues.

Any suggestions on summer programs that will help him complete his high school science education (add practical experience to his theory) and also fulfill the lab science requirements for competitive college engineering programs? He has taken a number of interesting summer science and technology enrichment courses, attended a pre-engineering program, and is technically inclined (build own computer, server, etc) but none of these taught or required the strict discipline of a lab science course.

Searching on-line I have found some summer Physics and Chemistry courses, but none seem specifically focused on developing laboratory science skills. I have also found some kits available for homeschool students, but he would like access to a full lab. Thanks.

Many community colleges ( and colleges) have freshman level chemistry and physics classes with laboratory over the summer and might allow him to enroll as a visiting student. I think this could count as dual enrollment ( and not change his status as a freshman applicant- but would likely need to be approved by his school for this). The problem would be finding a place to live- but if he had family or friends who would house him for the summer, that might be doable.

Thanks Pennylane 2011. Good idea, but residential would be so much more convenient.

Anyone else know of residential summer 2014 programs in the United States that offer a rigorous Physics laboratory course or a Chemistry laboratory course for a junior who has already studied physics and chemistry (knows a lot theory) but doesn’t have any real lab experience? thanks

Yes, I agree, residential would be much better. The problem is that many summer programs for high school students offer supplementary education, not the basics that would be duplicated at a local high school or intro college course. Home school students in the US are able to dual enroll in CC to get access to lab classes.
The closest option I know of is Johns Hopkins accellerated classes summer programs. This program has certain entry requirements but it may work. Hopefully there will be other suggestions.
