Physics or Extra English?

This is my senior year I am planning on being an Econ major when I reach college. I am first in class with almost all AP classes as of now. Next year I will have an extra slot in my schedule and I am not sure if I should take an English Composition course (in addition to AP Lit) (I love the teacher and would love to be able to take the class, or an Honors Physics course (we don’t have AP and this class is pretty much a joke). I’m not sure which will look better considering the major, or if just one class will hurt my chances at the best schools (like Columbia and UCLA). Please help!

Will you have 4 sciences? Double check that the schools that you are serious about don’t have ‘preferred’ courses- some do.

But…in my world, not everything in HS should be about college! D2 didn’t take AP Chem in her final year- she took the ‘less rigorous’ Forensic Science- b/c that teacher was famous in the school for being a fantastic teacher. D2 figured she could take Chem in college, but she would never get another chance to have that teacher. She never looked back- loved the class & is happily attending her 1st choice college.

I have taken Biology, Honors Chemistry, AP Chemistry and APES. I will also be taking H Computer Science although I don’t believe that’s considered a science class.

then, imo, follow your heart! and remember, that is part of what makes you you, not a box-ticking automaton…

Normally I’d say you really should take Physics to prove rigor. However, I think in your case you’ve shown enough science classes and not to sweat it.

Most colleges want to see you finish the sequence of bio, chem, and physics. At many it is required for admissions. I would take physics.

I agree with @guineagirl96. You need to at least look at the requirements of schools you’re interested in. Some explicitly require physics. Our high school also does not offer AP Physics. Honors Physics was a breeze for D15 because it wasn’t calculus based. But the rest of her schedule was pretty rigorous so it was nice to have an easier class senior year.

Physics. It’s a fundamental science course and the most important in the sense that it provides the foundation for other science courses, such as those that you’ve taken. Skipping it will leave a noticeable gap in your transcript. That you have a negative opinion of the physics teacher is not a help. You’ll have the textbook, the curriculum, and the time to go through the material at a deep level to get a good grade despite your perceived impression of the teacher.
