Physics or Honors Chemistry?

Hey CC, I'm going through a bit of a dilemma here :\

I'm fifteen, a rising sophomore. Recently, I've taken a strong interest in physics, and have seriously entertained the thought of majoring in a field of it in college. Obviously, it's too early to be deciding on what I really want to study, but as it stands, I'm not sure which of the classes listed in the title I should take sophomore year (can't take both; no room in my schedule).

I know that by the end of high school, I'll have both the AP Physics and AP Chemistry test under my belt; it's just a question of which one I would have already taken by the time I apply for college come fall of senior year. Would it hurt my chances if I wanted to get into physics by that time, but only have AP Chemistry to show for it?

I may have been a little vague here; please ask me if anything needs clarification! Thanks in advance for your inputs :)

Chemistry first! There are aspects of chemistry that help immensely with physics, especially those basic concepts. But do take physics later. It’s a truly rewarding class.

My personal advice would be to take honors chemistry, and casually study physics in the meantime during sophomore year. It’ll require discipline and dedication, but in doing so you’ll definitely impress admissions officers.

Here’s a good overview of what to study:

^^ I second that. Take Chemistry. I took Biology, Chemistry, APES, and (will take) AP Chemistry and AP Physics B in the same year. As long as they know you’re taking it, it won’t have any negative effect on you.

All right; I’ll keep everything that’s said in mind. Thanks again!

take both…I took bio, chem, physics, and apes in 10th grade. Since I had chem 1st semester, it helped me out in physics. Chem and physics both have some similar concepts.

My school MAKES us take Chem. before we go into physics which means it must help! I wouldn’t worry about getting into physics for your college. A lot of people haven’t taken East Asian Studies or something like that in high school and still get into that program in college and since you’ll be taking it in the future anyway, colleges will know that.
