Has anyone here taken the test? What should I expect and what things should I focus on?

I'm particularly worry because If I don't pass it I will already start behind according to the sample program the Chem Eng 2008-2009.

im going to assume you’re talking about the physics 7 test.

its basic newtonian physics. (shoot a rocket with accel A at angel theta… blah blah blah)
a question about vectors and adding them. maybe some frictional forces.

you shouldnt have to start behind. you will only get one class of credit:
if you fail the exam: physics 7A/L, 7B/L, and 7D/L
if you pass the exam: physics 7C/L and 7D/L

if it really ever becomes a problem, there’s always summer school (at a local Jc or at any UC near where you live) or you can take an extra class one quarter (20 units).

your frosh year (assuming you dont have any AP or college classes) will probably be something like this:

Fall: chem 1a/l, math 2a, physics 7a/l
Winter: chem 1b/l, math 2b, physics 7b/l
Fall: chem 1c/l, math 2d, physics 7d/l
so you have a free elective in every quarter (so you could take the programming class, then the 2 writing classes everyone needs. good!)

and soph year:
Fall: chem 51a/l, math 2e, chemE 45A
Fall: chem 51b/l, math 2j, chemE 45B
Fall: chem 51c/l, math 3d, chemE 45C
again another free elective every quarter.

but in the catalogue it has 7B/C and 7D listen down as core classes but not 7A as one. What does that mean?

it means you can placement test out of 7a, but you cannot test out of 7b/c and d. you have to take the latter classes unless you have AP credit (and i dont remember if they take ap credit for the C exam. check the catalog).
you dont need 7a to graduate unless you are a pure physics major or plan on applying to med school or pharm school- those require a full year of physics. (or you could take 7e. 7a is really easy. i havent taken 7e yet, although it is suppose to be easy too, the topics covered look easy too).

its not a big deal if you have to take it. just take the placement test. if you pass, go into physics C and D. if you end up wanting to go to med school or something later on, just tack on 7e.
if you dont, take A, B, and D and be happy.

additionally, if you struggle in 7a, it’s a good indicator that you shouldn’t be an engineer. you should be able to get an A with your eyes closed.
