What Physics class should I start out with if I have never taken ANY Physics classes in high school, but I received a 5 on AP Chemistry and AP Calculus BC?

phys 1 with calc

aka phy2048

Are you sure that I shouldn’t take an Intro to Physics course? I will say that I am sort of a pessimist so I am probably just doubting myself but I don’t know.

thats what phys with calc is. its intro to phys, but it uses calculus. everything is better with calc anyways.

Is PHY2048 any harder than intro to chem is? .__.

I am curious then why do people with no Chemistry experience are often asked to take Intro to Chemistry? Is Chemistry considered more difficult than Physics?

^ I’m not actually sure why this phenomenon happens (why chm1025 is encouraged before chm2045, but “intro to physics” isn’t usually suggested before phy2048).

Either way, I’ve seen the syllabi for both courses and they both seem like wastes of time if you’re going to take the “real” classes (chm2045 and phy2048) anyway.

[General Chemistry I Spring 2008 (Brucat)](http://www.chem.ufl.edu/~itl/2045/syllabus.html)

Yeah Intro to Chem is a waste of time

I am wondering the same thing and I am currently registered for CHM2046/L and I want to drop that for PHY2048/L but I am unsure.

Thanks.

I just looked on [course descriptions](Physics < University of Florida) and a prereq for PHY2048 is high-school physics course.

So assuming that I can’t take PHY2048, which class should I take before it? I am assuming PHY2020?

Just take 2048. I took PHY2060 (Enriched Physics 1) without ever having had a physics class and was able to get an A.

@Medwell

I’ve decided to try and take PHY2048 and PHY2048L and I will just try and learn about Physics in the coming weeks using Hippocampus and KhanAcademy.

Also how much about vectors are you supposed to know prior to taking the course? I got a 5 on Calculus BC but our teacher never taught vectors so I taught myself somethings using the aforementioned sites. With that being said, I am still rather inexperienced with vectors.

I don’t think the course has any prerequisite knowledge. If I remember correctly, we learned about vectors the first few days, and the first homework assignment was about vectors.
