PHYSICS Subject Test

I know that there are several other threads on this topic, but I'm looking for people who have specifically taken the Physics Subject Test within the past few months.

I'm asking for recommendations on the BEST PREP BOOK possible, for someone who is aiming for 770+. I am taking the Physics test in October, and it will be the 2nd of my 2 subject tests submitted for college admissions, so I need it to be very good.

Quick background: I took honors Physics at my high school this past year. AP Physics (B) is not offered until senior year, so I will be taking that class next year. However, I need to take the Subject Test in October and then the SAT I in November, to be ready in time for Early admissions.
I received an A+ in my honors Physics course, but my high school is not especially great, so I will surely need extra prep to get into the high-700s/800.

I have heard both positive and negative things about resources like Princeton Review, Barrons, Kaplan, and online Sparknotes.

Can someone who relied HEAVILY on a Physics prep book please weigh in here on recommendations, particularly people who have tried multiple resources/prep books? Those with some basis of comparison would be especially helpful.

If you're a Physics whiz who got an 800 with barely even studying at all, that's not really what I'm looking for... I'm wondering which prep book is best for boosting someone who is good at Physics (would score around a 700 w/ no prep) to the upper-700s/800 through use of a prep book.

If this is YOU, please chime in! Greatly appreciated!

Sorry, but bump!

I took Physics and got 800 (although this was the October test 2 years ago).
Princeton Review and Sparknotes were especially helpful, so I recommend those two. I actually started studying mid-August, so you have more time to work things out (:

Thanks! What was your background in Physics like? (extensive background knowledge? AP class? etc.)

the physics test really wasnt that hard i think

@sahernaqvi, students at my HS traditionally do not do well on standardized Physics exams, b/c my HS isn’t very good and I don’t have any sort of special background knowledge in Physics… just getting an A in the Honors class at school (AP not offered). Do you have advice for someone in my situation? I won’t be able to get an 800 without the help of a prep book because my teacher was not great.

I got a dissapointing 760 in physics but I’m from Canada so a lot of the stuff on it was not taught. I used princeton review and Kaplans book. The princeton review had the more difficult tests and it had more information than the Kaplan. But the Kaplan was very easy to understand because it had long explanations. What I recommend is if you have an apple device you can buy the Kaplan physics book for only $6.99 so get that first and understand all your concepts there. Then buy the Princeton book, look everything over and practice using the tests.
