Physics undergrad courses

Do you know which college is best for a Physics undergrad?

Caltech or MIT I believe.

i would like to know as well, as i am interested in studying physics.

i asked my physics teacher this same question, and his answer/explanation seemed fairly reasonable. he said that UChicaco, SUNY Stony Brook and Columbia were up there because of FermiLab and Brookhaven attracting the best researchers.

But isn't Princeton supposed to be good?

Probably depends on what area of Physics you're interested in. Each school has its strengths, but I'm not in the know enough to list them. When I was at Princeton, I was really impressed with the physics courses I took. Plus, it was pretty cool sitting in a classroom where Albert Einstein used to sip coffee and muse about the pattern of ripples in his coffee caused by the particle accelerator in the basement. Then again, I wasn't a physics major, so I never got into the really tough stuff...

Which courses did you take? Astrophysics, molecular Physics...?

Can you do a double major in Physics and molecuar biology or do you have to take a maths major when you do a Physics one?

I asked a friend of mine who is a Caltech professor (and Princeton grad) to rate undergrad physics programs. His top 4 choices:
-Princeton
-Harvard
-Stanford
-Caltech
He might be biased :) but I think that's a pretty good list. Here's his addendum to the list:
"...with the caveat that Caltech is fabulous for the right
student and awful for the wrong student. There are many others which are probably comparable in physics, but if you rate overall education experience to be part of physics experience I think I would be happy with my list."

Double majoring depends on the school. I don't think Princeton allows double majors...at least I don't think they did when I was there (in the dark ages) but you can almost always work out a course of study that combines different courses of study like physics and mobio. Of course, you'd have to have to be a masochist to try to double major in those fields :) (In answer to your other question...I took some basic molecular physics)

Thanks. How was the molecular physics course? What topics were there?

Frankly, I remember enjoying the course and being challenged by the material, but I don't remember any of the subject matter...it's been a few years :)

Why not post your questions on the CC's Princeton board? You'll get some current students there who will have a better idea of courses and policies today...

OK Thanks a lot. btw, any ideas on Physics in Yale?

No idea...sorry.

Ok thanks anyway
