Anyone taking physics? Haven't seen many people on this board taking physics... is there a reason for that? D= I mean, I guess I haven't learned a lot of the content yet...

im taking physics in 2 weeks

same here.

it's just that I see a lot of threads about chem, math, history, and bio, but almost none about physics. I thought maybe physics was difficult and no one wanted to take it, but maybe it's just that the physics people already know what they're doing =D

SAT physics has a really good curve (-8=800) but if you're not in AP physics then i would suggest not taking it.

It's more than -8, it's more like -10 or 11.

I know that because I got about that many wrong and still got an 800.

I think, that among the subject tests, and excluding the language tests, it's the toughest. You should only take it if you have a thorough knowledge of physics concepts.

I recommend a calculus based physics course and LOTS of self study to do well on it.

I'm teaching myself about half of SAT Physics. I took our school's version of AP Physics (we call it KAP, because it's a course related to Kenyon University), and it was a course based on Mechanics C. So, I have to learn the rest. Electricity & Magnetism onwards.

Sparknotes and PR (both the AP and SAT 2 review books) have been helping me. Electricity and Magnetism hasn't been easy to grasp, but I have three books and three different explanations to get me through every concept.

I'm taking the SAT physics in June. It should not be too hard for me, since I recently took both AP Physics C exams. But I bought the Princeton Review book so that I can review everything that wasn't covered in Physics C (thermo, waves, optics, modern physics). So does anyone know whether the practice tests in the PR book are harder than the real thing, and if so, by how much?

I would actually say the PR tests are just a tad harder, because they test a few more obscure topics and they require a bit more math.

Awesome, thanks! I just took a PR practice test, it took me a bit over the time limit but got a raw score of 65. 6 of the 8 I missed were on the topics not covered in AP Physics C, so I guess I'll have to keep studying those more...

i did sparknotes and got 720 (-16, 3 blanks), but how accurate is sparknotes?

In terms of test questions, surprisingly accurate. There were questions that I had done on SN that I found on my SATII test.

But, the SN curve is harsher.

I'm taking it in 2 weeks.

im signed up to take the physics sat 2 in two weeks also, but im not in an ap course and im barely scraping by in the regular class. should i cancel? i NEED to get at least 700. do i have a chance to score this high?

idk, depends on how well u understand physics. u can't go by memorization (except formulas, but they won't help u in the long run except calculate or answer questions that's based on formulas) like bio or chem.

Know all of the formulas in the review books. You have to know them.

Know the concepts - all of the major ones. PR does an excellent job going over them

Know graphs and major physicists as well

Take a lot of practice tests. They reuse some of the EXACT same questions from practice test to real test.

Be prepared to work FAST. You have around forty seconds to answer each question. Practice, practice, practice!!!

yeah, my course didn't teach me many of the concepts, but I reviewed the content myself and I think I got all of it. our IB higher level physics goes quite in-depth, it just doesn't cover everything.

the time constraint is causing me some trouble though. probably because I'm not familiar enough with much of the content.

I got the PR book and I got 800, but BARELY.

Aside from PR (if PR even helps at all), does anyone know some good sites to study Physics History that might come up on the exam?

I m nuts for taking this exam. Someone actually told me it was the easiest one there is. ****.

I wanted to prepp for june with my Kaplan book, but there are way too many mistakes in it :(
Just ordered Princeton Review, hope it arrives tomorrow

Btw, is calculator usage allowed?
