Physics!

How is the physics program at Geneseo?

I know that Geneseo graduates <20 physics students each year, does this mean that it is easy to do research with professors (because of little competition for research positions)?

How much research goes on? How difficult and respected is the program?

Do you know of any Geneseo grads who have gone on to top PH.D Programs in physics?

Thanks!

Below is a link to the American Institute of Physics enrollment statistics which will give you some perspective on how Geneseo compares to other colleges and universities in terms of the number of students who graduate from Geneseo with a degree in physics. I believe Geneseo has more students graduate with a degree in physics than any other SUNY College or University based on this study. When compared to bachelor only departments Geneseo ranks #5 nationwide (See table 5 of the report).

There are a number of 3/2 cooperative engineering programs with some top schools:

I would also browse the alumni database…some alumni have posted the schools and programs they attended following Geneseo.

You can also reach out to the department for more information as well:

Thanks Geneseograd! I’ll be honest, my question was mostly directed at you. Finding out the Geneseo Physics Alumni have gone on to grad school at Stanford, Upenn, and Rice has confirmed, for me, that Geneseo is a top-notch school. Thanks again!

My roommate is majoring in physics here. We just completed our freshman year and he got a summer research position with one of the best professors in the department.

I haven’t taken a physics course yet (will be this coming year), however many of my friends majoring in it seem very happy. Though it just might be that they love physics more than the average person. :P
