Physiological Science & Neuroscience

Hi. I'm a 2nd year at UCLA and currently MIMG. Since I'm just a 2nd year, I haven't taken any upper division MIMG classes at all, so I don't know what I'm in for if I stick with this major. What I do know is that I'm taking LS3 right now and I keep falling asleep in every lecture. That's probably a good sign that I'm not interested in molecular bio, so I'm thinking MIMG or MCDB won't be good for me. I would LOVE to be interested in molecular bio though, since it's so useful.

I also know that I miss LS2. I loved learning about the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, in particular. I am considering changing into PhySci or NeuroSci. I want to get some insight from current/past PhySci/NeuroSci majors about their counselors' helpfulness and what you like/liked about your upper divs.
^I've heard horror stories about Ina, the PhySci counselor, saying she's cavalier and intimidating... are they true?

Additionally, I came into UCLA thinking "I'm going to be pre-med!" Nowadays, I don't know if I'm cut out for it. My grades are decent (lots of A-), but I get frustrated under pressure and I like getting lots of sleep and having time to myself. My last question is: what careers are available for PhySci and NeuroSci graduates who DON'T plan on going to medschool?

Thanks for your time!

Yea, I know the Phy Sci counselor (Ina), and she is a b*tch. I’ve heard the Neurosci counselor is OK though…much more helpful.

As far as careers, you could go into PhD/research, and neurosci would probably be best for that since theres a ton of brain research going on right now. You could also look into nursing, optometry, pharmacy, physicians assistant. I’d say phy sci is more helpful for that but neurosci is OK too (the most important classes you take will be in grad school). IMO, neurosci seems more interesting.

I’m currently a third year in phy sci taking my first upper div. Inna really isn’t that bad. Yes, she can seem cold at first, but she’s actually pretty nice once you get to know her. Just make sure you go to her office prepared with your questions. If you’re unprepared then she gets annoyed.

Also, AVOID phy sci if you enjoy lots of sleep and relaxation. There’s a large population of hyper competitive premeds and predents here. It’s gunner city.
