Short version: I took piano lessons for ~5 years, but I still play today. Would colleges frown upon my enrollment in this class if I were to take it?
Long version: I took piano lessons from early 2008 to late 2012, but I still play. I am considering taking this class because it will give me more time to play piano (which is why I quit in 2012), but I would not if colleges would frown upon it. I am no prodigy, nor have I been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall, but I have advanced at through lessons faster than most students. Would colleges see this class as a easy-A class and disapprove?
I doubt they will frown on it as long as you continue to take core classes. Just don’t count on it to help GPA since many colleges recalculate GPA, only including academic courses. Depends on the college - you can check admission pages to see what various colleges do. The plus is some schools, including our state schools, require a unit of fine arts. So having a music, art, etc credit is required in some states. I doubt any school will know that you already knew how to play when you signed up.
First of all, they don’t know how many years of piano lesson you had before taking that class. Even you tell them on your application, it does not really matter as most schools don’t care about non core subjects unless it is related to your intended major.
