Piano players.

How much do you practice, and what piece(s) are you currently studying? Also, do you play for any band or for competition practice, etc.?

oo boy i dont play to often infact i dont remember the last time i played since i moved i have no room for a piano and we have a keyboard but its just not as fun. I play a lot of musical songs(songs from musicals Les mis to be exact hence the name imma big fan and former actress in a production). From different musicals also but mostly les miserables yah and a few other musical pieces but yah mostly les mis i sing also...les mis all the way! what can i say im a Les mizzie at heart!

Haha. I barely have time for practice now. I used to practice a couple of hours a day, but when high school hit me, I went down to 45-60 minutes. I practice for competitions and auditions. Currently, I am working on:
» Two Concert Etudes: Waldesrauschen - Liszt
» Allegro de Concierto Piano Solo - Granados
» No. 8 Etude in F Major - Chopin
» Rag Time - Stravinsky

It's really fun to play. I just need to find time to do it.

haha same i used to practice 1 hr + a day, but since hitting high school, i practice like every other day for 45 minutes...
right now i'm playing
gnomenreigen- liszt (kchen- same set :))
poissons d'or- debussy
moment musicaux n4- rachmaninoff
tempest sonata- beethoven
italian concert- bach

I wish I lived in New Jersey. I'd like to play at Carnegie. Sounds pretty cool.

My teacher quit, so I started playing jazz in a combo. It works lol. ;)

haha yeah there's like 1024909 competitions that if you win, you play in lincoln center or carnegie... it also happens to be heavily asian/russian(are they counted as asians?) dominated... lol

i havent practiced since like april....cuz of aps and stuff but ive been playing for liek 10 years

I don't practice as often as I should... Anyway, right now I'm playing a sonatina (first movement) by Khatchaturian; Invention in a minor, by J.S. Bach; Curious Story, by Heller; and Variations on a Slovakian Folksong, by Kabalevsky. There are a few other pieces I'm playing, but those are the ones that I've practiced a lot. Also, where I live, there aren't very many competitions. I play in a local one each year, but other than that, I don't really play in competitions.

I want to enter a competition! There's like 0 competitions down here besides concerto and adjucations.
I'm working on:
Beethoven--Emperor concerto
Liszt--La Campanella
Debussy--Estampes
Haydn--Sonata Hob. XVI:35
Bach--Prelude and Fugue No. 16, WTCI

xyz... u playing the entire estamps.. wow :) g'job

I took lessons for 2 1/2 years in elementary school...I got pretty far along for my age but then stopped because in fifth grade I became a mondo-over-achiever and joined every possible club and didn't have time. I started again for about a year and a half in middle school, but I started high school and couldn't find time to do it anymore. However, I still try and practice for at least an hour on the weekends just to keep in practice. Now that summer's here, I'm trying to devote time to learn from the lessons on my keyboard and the book of practice songs that came with it. I think it would be a waste to start lessons again since I know I would have to stop them in the fall when school starts again.

Which ones are you guys doing? I've never really been in one, and I don't know how to find them..

Kchen - I love the Waldesrauschen etude. I performed it this year, and it def. helped me win a state competition here in MA. I especially love the crashing climax on the penultimate page...it is def. one of my favorites.

Actually, the local competition I play in each year is really more of an audition than a competition. There's also a regional competition that I haven't participated in. (I've only been playing three years.)

Haha.... I'm hardcore with piano!

Right now I'm basically prepping for my last recital of high school...

Mozart Sonata in C Major (K 330)
Beethoven "Appassionata" Sonata
Chopin:

Nocturne in D Flat (op 27, no2)
"Winter Wind" Etude (op 25, no2)
Etude in E Major (op 10, no3)
"Heroic" Polonaise Op 53...

one hour and fifteen minutes of [insert anything you'd like here]... >.<

Bleh.... at least 3 hours a day practice for this recital!

haha have fun... i <3 the winter wind.. my friend played it :D

Wow collegeherei_come, that is some recital. You should record it!

09xoxo: Haha, the Estampes suite wasn't exactly my first choice, if you know what I mean. My teacher's like, "OMG don't you just admire Debussy's sense of tonality!" So I started learning it. It's beginning to make me like it me though. :)

i've played piano for a long time (9 years now), but I don't play any traditional classical music, and have never had a teacher.

I play mostly neoclassical music i find here and there, and believe me, there is some truly awe-inspiring piano music out there.
i play whenever i can, sometimes i can only find 15 minutes to set aside, but other days i have hours and hours.

I've played for about 5-6 years. I'm horrible about practicing. I'm pretty good at sightreading, so I generally read through the piece once or twice every couple of days. Then about 2 weeks before NYSSMA I actually start to learn it.

I did an independent study this year (mostly because my mom was sick of paying for weekly lessons when I didn't practice enough for them to be worth it), but it turned out well.

This year I played a Waltz in C Sharp Minor by Chopin.
