pianos?

Hi there,

I applied for transfer admission, and out of curiosity - are there accessible pianos on campus?

Thanks for your help...

do a search or look in the helpful threads post.

Yes. Public - John Jay lounge, Wien lounge, Lerner Hall lounge. There are dedicated Music Practice rooms in Schapiro which you can reserve, but tend to be in high demand. There are other rooms as well around campus, but the same applies.

Interesting to hear. If I play double bass (yeah, the one that looks like a violin but is 6.5 feet tall), where would I keep my instrument? Or does the CU Symphony provide stringed instrument rentals? For that matter, where does the symphony rehearse?

The CU Orchestra rehearses Thursday evenings in Lerner Hall. I don't know about equipment rental.

Here are two places to look for information and contacts for questions:

Columbia University Orchestra

CCP | columbia classical performers

Thanks for the CCP link, that'll definitely be something to look into if I get in!

how competitive is the orchestra?

if you get in, shoot me a pm and i'll let you know where the pianos are. no way i'm posting to a public forum though.

Haha alright, thanks! That's a good idea :-)

My friend who is a freshman there is probably the best jazz pianist I've ever seen. There has to be a piano somewhere.

Yeah, I hear the jazz studies program at CU is amazing. By, they way, AynRand=Lame, I love your username! I remember nearly vomiting when I first read Anthem.
