Duke - sticker price
University of Rochester REMS (guaranteed medical program) - half tuition schol
Emory (Oxford) - full tuition scholarship, scholars program
Vanderbilt - full tuition scholarship

where would you go?

Duke - sticker price

where would you go?

Vandy or Emory.

Vanderbilt.

Where would I go? Home

The mantra should be go free(in this case Vandy or Emory), go big(HYP), or go home(your state schools).

Do you really prefer any over the others? If not, I'd go Vanderbilt.

I say Vanderbilt too. Great school with no cost to you? Yes.

If you want to go to med school, pick Rochester... it's not like you'll be forced to go med if you change you're mind but it's a good back up.

could everyone give some reasoning? why would you pick vanderbilt over emory?
and columbia student, why would one go home if one can already go free?

I was suggesting Vandy over Emory as they are about equal overall, but you are on the Oxford College campus of Emory, which rightfully or not recieves somewhat of a stigma.

What DSC says about the Oxford campus is true. I mean, if you've visited it and enjoyed it, tha's one thing, but overall people seem to say it's better to be on the main campus.
Have you visited these schools? Do you have any opinions about them? It would be easier for us to help if you could tell us what you like/dislike about each school.

Can you afford Duke or U of R.

Oxford!!!!!

U R or Emory..

I'm so jealous of u!!!

Great options!

I'd be tempted by Duke, but I'd take the full scholarship at Vanderbilt.

i understand the oxford situation and its implications, as well as both the disadvantages and advantages of the school, and ultimately I feel I could be happy there. I got 1/3 tuition scholarship at Emory main campus, forgot to mention that.

The thing that scares me about Vanderbilt is the Greek Scene, so I'm not sure I will be happy there. I think it's very important that I am happy wherever I go. I also think the scholars program and scholarship will more than cover any stigma for going to oxford.

I was originally tempted by U of R, but I now feel I can get into an even better med school going the traditional route. I'm willing to put forth the effort. However, U of R was the place that really clicked for me, where I felt I could fit in best. Maybe it's because I'm from the north.

I will be visiting Emory main campus (I've already been to Oxford for scholar weekend) as well as vanderbilt this weekend

I don't get it. If you take REMS you're guaranteed U of R med at the very least, and you can still take the MCATs and apply elsewhere if you so choose.

REMS seems like the obvious choice to me if money is not a huge factor.
