what is the best choice for an after-school/summer job. I've never worked before so anyone with experiencee help me choose. what are the worst/best(if any) things about each particular place?

More seriously though, check out your parents contacts. If they work in law, business, or even a more sciency profession you can usually get a job filing or doing office work. If groceries, french fries, or retail isn't your thing, this can be a viable alternative.

i've worked at a grocery store for almost three years now, and it's pretty bomb. the union makes it cushy--time and a half on sundays, paid holidays, vacations and sick days, as few or as many hours as a week as i want, plus i work behind the service desk, so i get very few customers and a lot of time to do homework.

yea actually i would prefer retail but like i said the nearest mall is still too far to justify the gas to get there and back so thats outta the question.

egolikestomach, do you mind me asking what grocery store you work at?

i worked with CVS for half a year and it was pretty fun, all i did was stock their mounds and mounds of inventory and sit at the cash register. easy work. so yeah, do Rite-Aid.

i highly doubt you won't be able to land a job at rite-aid or a grocery store, but if you don't try working fast-food and see how you like it. some people must not mind it, or they certainly wouldn't be working there.

If you know a bit about ebay you can start a company on ebay where you take commission to sell junk people don't want...and you can even take this company to college and do it too. All you have to do is get a seller's account on ebay (to start off...if your revenues total more than $200/month then you might consider getting an ebay store), consult, network, network, network, list the item, collect payment, ship item, take commission and ship the check to the item's original owner. If you're successful you can make a living out of it....apparently some people make like $15k/month on ebay.

i totally love my job at kroger. and i promise i'm not even being sarcastic. :)

fast food is too greasy and working at a drug store would be too lonely (you'd just sit by yourself most of the time). grocery stores are more social, and they pay tons better than fast food and probably a little better than rite-aid would (unless you work specifically in the pharmacy, naturally).

retail is probably more fun than anything else ...

e.g.: clothing, electronics...
if you like clothes, work at your fave clothes store
if you like electronics, get a job at best buy or something
if you like the outdoors, get a job at R.E.I.

Gotta say being a personal trainer aint bad either. I work 25 hours per week, make $450 per week ($18 per week). I also work at the desk tho and janior at te gym which cna be boring and dirty.

I think several people here have suggested retail; I happen to like it (A&F). Depends on what and where you work, of course, perks include great environment, discounts, etc.

Give it a try! I didn't think I'd ever work at a clothing store until I was recruited; I haven't regretted it since.
