There’s lots of good discussion there, and we’d like your help in identifying those threads that you think are the real classics - the threads that had great info that you found helpful and might be equally helpful to students or parents that are just arriving at College Confidential.
Please post the name of the thread AND a link; feel free to add a comment as to why you think it should be enshrined in the pantheon of CC classics. (The framed structure of the old forum makes it a little trickier to get the link right - all you have to do is right click the thread while you are looking at it, and click Properties to see the correct link URL.)
there were some really great classics and i will look for them and post them up in the next few days but right now i got to do my homework (as i turn away from my computer the sexy forum keps on calling me back). the perfect change.
How about a Xiggi approach to the SAT thread? Unfortunately, there are hundreds of Xiggi posts in the old SAT forum which makes it difficult to isolate one.
i dunno how to post the specific link, it shows generic on my url box. and as i have a Mac, there is no right and left click…
this thread, however, was hysterical. I know its not really helpful to the " chosing a college theme," unless you are trying to decide upon which Ivy to attend based upon how pretty the name will sound in the work world in the distant future. the OP was Jazzyjeff and it is a genius bit of work
the copy i located is under Princeton University, and the last post to the thread was made Oct 04, 2004 @ 5:15 pm. only the first post is hall of fame worthy, if it is possible just the hack off the rest of thread.
The easiest way I’ve found to get the link is to click on ‘email this to a friend’ and the link is at the top, highlight, copy and there you are. You could do this on a Mac.
Wow…I think you set a new record for oldest thread ever resurrected. I’m curious how you found this 9.5-year-old thread. Google search? Internal site search? Just as an FYI, the community doesn’t typically respond well when a user brings a long-inactive thread back from the dead, though given that this is the Community Issues forum they may let it pass.
Not sure what you mean by “classic reading version”, but this thread is talking about the decade-old discussions on the site prior to the last one (if that makes sense):
The last time there was an overhaul of this site…a long while ago…there was a classic view read only option. Basically, as I recall, one could read in the former format.
I know there are some folks who wished that option had been available for this overhaul.
When I read this thread, without noticing the date…yikes…I thought maybe the previous format was available. Then I saw the date…nope…a very old bumped up thread!
The pre-2004 version of CC is what Roger called classic. It was the second version of College Confidential. The version we just lost was the vBulletin forum that lasted many years. On this third version, an attempt was made to “refresh” the styles by introducing a “lite” version with baby blue and lots of white. Fortunately, the option to remain classic was not abandoned and users could choose their fav’ color schemes.
We did not get so lucky this time. And again, for the record, I am not sure how old the design team or the forus group was, but that choice has been middle-schooly!
I really think you should start of poll in the Parents’ forum and take it from there!
PS As far a revisiting the threads of the Classic Forum, my option of choice has been to load the site and use the “search this site” feature of Google. Of course, I usually know what I am looking for and that helps defining the searches.
