I was just wondering if you folks think it would be a wiser choice to pick an easier major to apply to a school under, rather then the major which is harder for that particular school. I am currently applying to numerous UC’s and want to major in engineering, but i do not have very strong math grades or scores. I’m just wondering if its unethical to apply under a major which I know I do not want to major in just to get accepted into a particular school.

I don't think choice of major matters THAT much, except for McGill, where they force you to choose a major when applying. It's not so much unethical as it is difficult to switch majors sophomore/junior year. I would go in "undecided" (the most poopular major at most schools) rather than choose a completely different major, like English or Psychology.

I'm not sure what it is like at UC schools, but at the vast majority of schools your choice of major has no effect on your admission. It is generally no problem to change majors if you do it early enough, so go ahead and apply under engineering.
(Again, the system might be different for UC schools, I'm not sure :-))

the only uc that admits directly by major is Berkeley. once you get there you can change, but some majors are very difficult to get into. especially the ones in the college of engineering. if you dont think that you can make it into one of the college of engineering majors i recomend applying to somewhere in the college of letters and sciences.

So, say for UCI, would it be easier to get in if i chose a major from the school of humanities rather then if I chose a major from the comp science or engineering schools?
