Is there any chance to pick classes before orientation? I have a late orientation and don't want to be stuck with class i dont want (time, teachers, etc...)

No, you have to attend orientation to get the block lifted. How late is your orientation? DS went 17-18 July last year and didn’t have much trouble getting classes he wanted.

its on July 1-2. When i check on testudo it seems that most good classes are taken. Also i checked on testudo and on the page it says that newly admitted students can meet and advisor and register for classes using the walk-in method before orientation.

here is the link (look at the italics) and bullet number 1

[University of Maryland | Testudo | Schedule of Classes | Schedule Adjustment & Registration](http://www.testudo.umd.edu/soc/register.html)

lol that isn’t late at all. my orientation was less than two weeks before class started and I was fine. what classes are you trying to take?

yizzle24. Agree that July 1-2 is not bad. Bullet #1 in your link is one of the specific situations that make the italics different. You won’t be able to meet with an admissions counselor without going through orientation. All the large required classes will have additional sections or seats added through the summer.

You may not have your “dream” schedule freshman year first semester, but you will get classes that you need to meet core requirements and major requirements, and the math department more or less “guarantees” that you will be able to take the math class that you are placed into (i.e. they will open new sections as needed).

While I think it’s a great idea for people to get familiar with Testudo and have an idea about classes they want to take before they get to orientation, don’t get too crazy about watching as seats fill up. Things constantly change.

Adding a late reply, but I just came home from orientation and they said they were opening a few seats by the beginning of July in a lot of classes that are currently “full,” so I wouldn’t worry.
