when does this happen

orientation.

For Stern, you do it on your registration day (not orientation). For CAS, you must speak with your counselor first before you can register, which means you want the earliest possible orientation date.

CAS students will also have to check with their counselor before registering all of freshman year (not sure about afterwards), but Stern students never have to.

what about the international students who come late (end of august)
for orientation ????
do they have to pick from the remaining classes???

should i meet with someone?

Since you're in Stern, don't bother. You don't have to, and it won't really help that much. Just pick 4 classes off the list of recommended ones they send you over the summer.

do gsp kids pick classes at orientation, or do you mail in your class choices?

Pre-registration materials (GSP) came in the mail today - you choose a time slot and an elective.

yep I just got that package an hour ago so I guess it answers all my questions. thanks, though. I'm having trouble picking an elective.

see, I've been taking the same foreign language grades 7-12 and I want a new one, but I'm not allowed, which sucks. So for an elective I'm debating between environment sci and life science.

can i use AP credits to replace my liberal arts core classes
can i just just start taking my finance courses freshman year?

No, there's a list of what classes you can get exempted from through AP credits on the NYU website somewhere, and I'm pretty sure you can only get out of Nat Sci with APs (this applies to Stern kids only - not sure if the other schools have different policies).

No, you can't take finance classes freshman year unless you fulfill all the prerequisites. They're on the Stern website for all the classes. I think for FFM (the most basic finance class), you need to have sophomore standing (credit-wise) and to have taken maybe stats and econ, but I'm not 100% sure.

So yeah, if you want a definitive answer, check the website.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha.. haha.. ha.

I wish, my friend, I wish. But as youko said you can opt out of Nat Sci. And you can achieve soph standing by applying a ton of AP credits so you can take FFM second semester, but it's seriously lame and not even smart. You only have 38 elective credits (9 1/2 classes), so using them up means that you can't pad your GPA with intro to psych or java for toddlers, and also you can't take any courses/minors that interest you outside of Stern.

Simply put, don't apply more than the 4 science ones to get out of NatSci, and save the rest to be applied senior year if you have a job offer and want to get the heck out of there.

if i have like 128 credits, can i get a masters in something like economics or asian studies in my fourth year?

I haven't personally looked into majors outside of Stern, but I believe there are restrictions for which ones you can do. I'm assuming you accidentally typed masters?

like if i have 128 credits by the beginning of my senior year, can i use my fourth year to get a masters or double major at a another nyu school

When I looked at the University Registrar page for available courses, most MAP classes were labeled "Closed". But how is that possible since the Freshmen Orientation didn't even begin yet? Do they just close it off to reserve it for freshmen and then open it back up again once orientation starts? I would like to know which classes are available since I'll be attending a late orientation session and would have to choose from the leftover stuff.

well you begin to pick courses in june. so it is not surprising it is closed

can someone tell me what book they use for conversion with the west , world cultures and chinese

Has everyone gotten a list of freshman courses and a pre-orientation packet? I haven't gotten ANYTHING but some financial stuff!!

Don't worry, they're closed to reserve them for freshmen. And the books used for Con West and WC vary by which course you choose.

As for the 128 credits thing, the answer is no. Once you fulfill all your stern requirements they will force you to graduate (hint: don't take your senior standing required ethics class until you want to leave), even if you want to double major in something else.

so we can have more than 128 credits if we don't take that ethics class until the senior spring semester?

at cornell they have this thing to see which teacher gives out more As and Bs does NYU have a database to allow us to pick the easy teachers
