Excuse the noob question but it seems that the freshman writing seminar is chosen by ballot. This happens after choosing classes. What happens if the times conflict? How do I make time for it in the schedulelizer? Thanks in advance!

If the class is listed in schedulizer, just choose the classes that you choose as your first to third choice (people usually get what they want) and let the software to take care of checking whether there is a conflict or not (but make sure you check it yourself too).

If time conflict actually exists, then you would have to change your schedule. Come up with different plans or take FWS some other time!

My current rough schedule is as follows:
Intended major: Chemistry

Classes:
Chem 2150 (honors)
Phys 1116 (phys 1 w/ special relativity)
Math 1110 (calc 1)
Art 1201 (intro to painting)
PE 1510 (riflery)
FWS

Which will probably bring me to 19 credit total. I can’t find fws’s on the schedulizer for some reason, maybe I’m just stupid I don’t know. Is this courseload too much? Do I need better math than Calc 1? Its either Phys or Bio for me, and I chose art to get one req out of the way. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

if you use [chequerd - Login](http://www.chequerd.com) it has all the FWS’s and you can move around the classes to see all the possibilities with labs and discussions and all.

You will definitely need better math than Calc I for Phys 1116.

Could I take Phys 2207 then? Or are both of those equally hard?

Or would they even let me without the math prerequisite? In that case I may have to take biog 1350 or mse 1110. Those should still be allowed right? I’m CAS.

Why not just take a more advanced mathematics class?

MVCalc and/or Linear algebra?

Currently my schedule is
Chem 2150 (honors)
Math calc 1
Phys 2270
Hist 1510
PE 1526
and a FWS in Govt or something

I’m kind of afraid of taking a harder math course because I never took AP math, Math was standard level IB for me, so I need to start out with something simpler. But I still need the physics course to get preqs out of the way; I’m just not sure if that was very math intensive.

Anything wrong with my schedule?

Calc I is listed as a pre-req for Phys 2207, and if you’re not confident enough to take a harder math course, you should probably put it off until later.

I’m taking Phys 2207 in the fall and I’ve taken linear algebra and multivariable calculus. Several people I know who are planning on taking it have taken Calc II or III at least.

Also I see that you’re taking Chem 2150. A slightly weaker math background definitely won’t make much difference in the fall. I don’t know if you’re planning on continuing and taking Chem 2160 in the spring, but if you are, a stronger math background can definitely help you understand the material considerably better.

As CAS could I take engineering introduction courses like Engri1100, and do they require alot of math as well? Without phys 2207 I have 16 credits which feels uncomfortably low.

I think you can, but can you even use it for anything?
If not then I don’t see a point of taking it unless you’re
really interested in it. And I think 16 credits is enough. If
you’re worried about have too much free time then just get a
a job or join some clubs or something like that.

Note that as a CAS student you have a credit maximum of 18 per semester imposed on you. As a freshman (I assume you’re a freshman, sorry if this is wrong) it might be unwise to take a heavy courseload, at least in your first semester. Also 16 is above average I believe, and certainly above average for a first semester student.

Have you considered PHYS 1112?

Also consider trying a harder math course and then dropping it in the first few weeks and picking up an easier one if it’s too much. I’m unclear as to what your previous math preparation is.

@Vorharhar: I think it’s pretty common to take 16-18 credits per semester, but for freshmen with max of 18… 16 is a good number :)
