Hey guys,

My career path is undecided so far.

My general direction is to go to a graduate school of sorts... perhaps medical school?

I do not know yet.

However, college GPA is crucial in graduate admissions, and I'm having a very difficult time selecting courses.

My sister (30 year old doc) said that I should take the easiest classes, so I have a better chance at getting a good GPA.

Thing is... I don't know what to pick.

I got into the Honors college (I only did it for South Quad housing), but my sister is now advising me to drop the honors college and do normal LSA while retaining my dorm at South Quad.

What classes should I pick? I assume I'll be thrown into General Chemistry (AP Chem exam did not go as planned lol).

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Go Blue!

I don’t know your sister but I hate her.

Here are some common first semester courses:

Econ 101
Chem 130 or 210
EECS 182 or 183 or Engr101
Psych 101 or 110 or whatever intro to psych is
Some math class
Anthro 101 or whatever it is
English 125

If there is subject in particular you think will be interesting take an intro to that subject.

Anthro 101 is a good first semester class. It doesn’t have a final so that is one less final you will have to study for. Pysch 111 is the intro psych class. Poli Sci 111 has a lot of first years as does the first year art history class.

I’d definitely take a language if I were you. I’m honestly doing 2. I’m taking a class that sounds really interesting that I want to take, but doesn’t really fill any requirements whatsoever. I’m also taking my first year writing my first semester, and with UROP, I’ll probably be done with my credits.
If you’re doing science, I’d recommend getting that done within the first two years. Michigan doesn’t have the major I want to do (they don’t have many science majors- or rather, I can’t find them in my subject) so I’m making my own too and will probably plan out my classes after talking to my advisor. You’re recommended to get most of your science done before third year so you can do well on your MCAT if that’s your plan.

Just focus on your distribution requirements; whatever you find either interesting or useful, take.

thanks for your responses!
I’ll continue Spanish in college I guess. Hopefully it isn’t insanely hard.
