Picking good business schools

Alright so I have a few I am applying to but I think i need a better spread. I am an international student, living in Dubai but I'm originally from India. I applied to Wharton ED but got deferred. I want to go there obviously :P but 10% acceptance after deferred is too low so realistically I know it's like a lottery (I still will be trying, writing an essay for why UPenn is my first choice).

Here are my stats:

SAT 1: 800M, 700W, 650CR
SAT 2: 800 Math 2, 750 Bio M
TOEFL: 112/120

I do the full IB diploma, take 4 HLs (Math, business, eco and bio) and have all 7s (max possible grade) then 2 SLs (English A1 and Spanish Ab initio) both 6s

Essays are pretty good, Recs are amazing

Good work experience and research and things and ECs are pretty solid

So I applied to these places for finance:
NYU Stern (application sent)
CMU Tepper (application sent)
Michigan Ross Preferred/economics (sending today/tomorrow) - this is my second choice but I know it's very competitive
Ohio State- met the admissions officer and all, this is my safety
USC

Ok so I'm thinking of applying to like Cornell for economics just for the heck of it but I'm not too keen on that major, I'd prefer finance. Plus I don't even know if I'd get into Cornell, might be a waste of time writing essays. I might apply to McGill in Canada but I'd prefer to go to the States. Can you guys think of any other schools I should apply to?

Thanks :)

Wake Forest has a top business program, and its UG is easier to get into than some of the others you’ve listed. Business Week ranks Wake in a first place tie with Wharton for teaching quality.

Thanks. I’ll look into that, haven’t heard much about Wake Forest tbh, but I’ll research a bit on it. Any others u guys can think of?

Indiana University has a great finance program (10th best business school in US). They usually give merit aid to internationals, but you would be applying pretty late.

You have strong stats. You should have applied to Cambridge (Econ), Oxford-Said, Warwick and LSE in the UK too.

You’re too good for USC.
Tepper has loads of Indians --you may not like it that way.
Ross and Stern are both excellent options, and so should be MIT-Sloan.
Haas has too many Asians.
UVa-McIntire should be in your list.

UVA and Haas dont accept first year applicants into their business programs, so that was the issue there. I’m fine with Indians, I mean its alright, lots of Indians here in Dubai so I’m kind of used to it :stuck_out_tongue: but maybe a bit of change would be nice. Yea Ross is my second choice followed closely by Stern, MIT sloan for some reason I was a bit hesitant to apply because I thought I had too slim a chance to get in, but now I kind of regret it. If it was common app it would’ve been fine I might still have been able to apply, but with school closed now I doubt applying there is possible.

It’s too late for UK too and to be very honest I’m not very keen on getting conditional offers. Not that I’m going to slack later, but the conditionals I would get from those schools is really high and considering how difficult some of my subjects are you never know when you might have an off day

I looked up mcintyre transferring isnt too hard if i get for eco, so im applying there now, thanks for the advice :)

Emory’s business school is very good as well and you might want to look into that!

Thanks, yea I thought about emory, but it doesnt have first year business program either. I could apply for econ there as well I suppose like I’m doing for UVA and Michigan (If I don’t get preferred) but theres a limit to the number of schools I want to do that for. I only want to do that if the business program is absolutely amazing and extremely prestigious (Ross school of business is 4th US News and UVA is 1st business week). As good as Emory is I don’t think its worth the effort of going through the application process again, and considering I have like a 70% + chance at econ for Mich I think I’ll end up going there if I don’t get into any of my first choice business schools.

Basically I’m only looking now for more schools that accept me for first year business. I don’t think there are many left though that would be matches/low reaches for me. Thanks for your help guys

I would definitely check out these 2 lists:

Would you go to a smaller business school, such as Bentley or Babson in the Boston area?
