I got a letter in the mail a few days ago talking about a welcoming picnic at Hospital Point on Saturday, June 16th. I was wondering if anyone is going to that, and if any upperclass midshipman's parents went to that previously, if so, was it helpful? Is it worth going to? If nothing else, I thought it might be fun to go see some of my soon-to-be classmates that I know.

That sounds like it's coming from the USNA Parent's Club of Maryland. The Welcome Aboard picnics are great. It gives the Maryland plebes-to-be a chance to meet each other, new parents get a chance to meet seasoned parents. In our club (NoVA) we break the group up, parents together and Mids with the new plebes so that everyone can get their questions answered ( especially parents without embrassing their child in front of their shipmates). It's definitely worth attending and I think you'll enjoy it.

I am a member of the Maryland Parents Club. There will be quite a few members of the incoming class present. It is a great opportunity to meet some of your future classmates. There will be a couple of current Mids present to answer your questions and there will be an opportunity for your parents to ask questions of other parents once the group divides into two groups. It really is a good opportunity to meet others and to feel much more comfortable about what to expect on I-Day and Plebe Summer. I would definitely attend if you can.

Georgia has 45 Plebes for 2011! How exciting! A record I think. Georgia Picnic is also June 16th.

84 from Maryland this year! 25 are coming from NAPS. There should be a good showing of candidates at the June 16 picnic.

We've heard 71 from PA.

63 from Virginia...NoVA Parent's Club picnic is this Saturday (June 9).

not sure if that list includes the NAPS'ters

yeah i heard 25 just from VA 11th district (including NAPSters)
