Picture Perfect Teens..

When I look at these schools I now see picture perfect teens! I never really thought much about how the kids looked but all the current students look amazing. I know I shouldnt be comparing myself to them, but how do new students react to other kids? Do they care or not care about how they look? I felt really bad about myslef for a couple of minutes thinking about how would i rank up compared to other guys. Is this common or is my selfesteem going down? How do present boarders deal with things like breakouts or other image related things?

The marketing firms that create viewbooks and websites rely on retouching. Breakouts can be retouched out. As a group, prep school students tend to be athletic. Of course, they are many non-athletes. I'm sure you will fit right in.

Oh Wow, I had no idea they hired marketing firms! Retouchups! Wow, i had no idea, no wonder they all look so great, and here i thought their parents had paid or had been born naturally "designer babies", i need to get this junk out of my head!

Yes it is amazing what you can do with photoshop...

Now, I'm sure that the boarding schools aren't quite as blatant as these folks and that these are real students, but touching up pics is very easy!

That was a really funny article, how emberassing is that! lol U r right goalie dad it seems photo retouching is very easy!

Compred to who?

People are drawn to pretty things.

they obviously only put in the pictures that they liked, showing a bunch or racially diverse, clean cut, cheerful, and yeah, fairly good looking kids. I mean, there probably will be totally gorgeous people there, but there's no way that veryone can be that amazing looking.

They're going to put ME in next year's L'ville view book. On every page :)
Nelly will be on every page of Exeter's book and emmers will be on every page of Emma Willards'.

Huzah!

I see......

HAHAHAHAH CRICKETT!
Absolutely =]

lalalove94-- You'll be on every page of St Pauls surrounded by all the picture perfect BOYS!!!

Most of the time those pictures are staged. They want to show off the school and make it appealing, hence the pretty people and pretty clothes.

first of all, as arky said it's staged

second, just because you go to boarding school doesn't mean you're perfect. The're not going to put in the brochures all of the realities that lbftw has mentioned.

(yay first post)
exactly what roses&clovers said. do you ever see famous people who are seemingly perfect saying "I CAME OUT OF ANDOVER!"? (if there are, don't judge me :P)

I come from a pretty rich private school which doesn't offer financial aid, so I know what it's like to be with people who are REALLY "perfect." Nothing about them makes them entirely "perfect", it's just that they're rich, pretty from both luck and affluence, popular, smart, and athletic. But our lives are pretty messed up, so it balances out.
But when it's a bit more diverse, and when there is a sacrifice to go to a school far from home (unless you're a day student) and it's more about people who are ambitious rather than "just trying" it's a bit different. Also, I think I just live in a really rich neighborhood =/

boarding schools probably aren't full of perfect teens, though I can't back it up. some of the people from previous classes in our school who weren't very perfect at all went to great places like st. paul's ;)

Aussie13 -

I thought the same thing coming from my school in Australia to Exeter... However everyone here is not like that.

It appeared that way when I first came - but you become a community - and everything like that becomes blurred and irrelevant. You start to know people, and things like appearance and 'perfection' are really non-existent and not paid attention to...

It is just like what you have come from.

Prep schools really aren't that different :)
