Can someone tell me where I might be able to find photos of the south campus in general, and Boelter hall in particular? I've google'd it without success. Thanks much in advance.

You want a self portrait of me?

I can extensively search for the interior of Boelter Hall. But if you want a picture
of the outside of Boelter Hall, there is one in my profile.

Better to not see it actually.

its a rectangular brick building mixed with some cement.

go to the UCLA site -> ‘maps’ at the top -> color map -> south campus -> find boelter on the map and click on it. not a very flattering picture, but honestly the most attractive part of it is the entrance…which is just a pair of concrete slabs on either side of some stairs.

Not that I EVER go to south campus unless visiting someone in hospital, but here’s a pic I found on the web:

And here are some more – (and I’m finding these as a former north campus, engineering/computer-challenged older person!):

It’d be better to look at pictures of UCLA as a whole…because south campus looks very very gloomy.

CNSI looks sick though :D

ROFL at this thread…

why boelter hall in particular?

Thanks for the help you guys!

Because I’ve applied to CS and I wanted to take a closer look at the building/area that I’ll be spending most of my time if I get accepted and decide to go. I’m not sure if I can make it down to LA this spring break, if not, then pictures are all that I can depend on.

if anything, the building would make you not want to come here.

Hmm…
Agreed.
[/mischief]

seriously, no one comes here to spend leisure time in south campus.
you come for class, you get out of lecture, you evacuate as quickly as possible to someplace less gloomy, confusing, and depressing.

but i think it’s safe to say that UCLA as a whole makes up for the travesty that is south campus ;)

and in any case, when you’re IN a building, it doesn’t matter how the outside looks. also, there are nice things about south campus. la kretz is new, they’ve built other new things and done some landscaping, and at the very least south campus is closest to westwood!

Well, the LS building is very nice. There’s a random marble column inside. Oh yeah, and there’s cool detailing on the outside of the building. Lions or something. I don’t think the buildings are so ugly. But South Campus does feel almost institutional. Lots of right angles and cement.

south of boelter looks pretty decent with the CNSI, lakretz, orthopaedic hospital research center/biomed research center, and to a lesser extent the LS building.

young/geol/slichter, boelter/ms, boyer/mol sci, bomb shelter look pretty bad on the outside.

The Bombshelter restroom is the worst restroom on campus.

CNSI is the best building and they allowed prospective engineers to tour it.
Too bad less than 3% of the students will be allowed to enter again.

If you ask me, Bunche is as bad as MS in terms of classrooms.

pink- life science is not nice. marble columns aside, there’s holes in the ceiling, and some pipe thing was leaking in our discussion room. poor TA.

bunche is definitely the pits. the windows are rusted open so it’s freezing and then you get some foreign dude yakking it up on a cell phone in some obscure language right outside the room and you can’t hear your TA at all.

but that said, you generally can navigate a north campus building. south campus… not so much… i tried going from MS 4th floor to boelter 4th floor. ended up going upstairs to 5th floor just to go down again, because genius me, they don’t connect… and how many other buildings have the 5th floor, or the 4th floor, as the ground floor anyway???

a lot of south campus building also have anonymous hallways, MS comes to mind. Bunche is the only north campus building i know of with halls that bad.

bombshelter has bathrooms?!

Yeah, they’re teeny. They’re in alcoves at the corners of the building facing away from the eating area.
